HUGE CONTROVERSY! Hunter X Hunter 357 Manga Chapter ハンター×ハンター Reaction/Review -- DEATH

About

"O, My Rubber Nen" (sometimes stylized as "O MY RUBBER NEN") is a quote from the character Hisoka Morrow from the Japanese manga series Hunter x Hunter, in a scene in which he faces his inevitable death. The scene received a mixed reception from the fans, as some of them perceived it as Deus Ex Machina, which caused some online communities, such as the anime and the 4chan manga/board, to use the quote as a Template to simulate alleged "assaults" in manga series

Origin

The scene comes from chapter 357 of the Hunter x Hunter manga, released on June 13, 2016. The chapter covers the conclusion of the fight between the characters Chrollo Lucifer and Hisoka Morrow, with Hisoka losing the battle after Chrollo explodes him with their ability. After being confirmed dead by a group of characters, Hisoka suddenly wakes up and explains the Machi character who survived using his nen (energy that exists in the universe Hunter Hunter x and that gives different skills), injecting gum into his heart and lungs to restart them. The slogan can be seen in the Mangastream fan scan, in a flashback that describes the events just before his death, where he orders his son to resuscitate him after his death.

Since the release of chapter 357, the phrase has become popular among the community for its absurdity. Some use it to make fun of hardcore fans of the franchise, referring to this as a weak writing of the creator of the series Yoshihiro Togashi. Due to the long and regular hiatus that the author takes when writing Hunter x Hunter, the community thrives on creating memes as content for discussions. These factors made the phrase extend to other discussions, using it to refer to any form of control or inconsistency by parodying it. For example; "Or, my punch of friendship."
